About Gloom to Bloom

My business is built on the belief that your space can be converted into something truly beautiful without having to break the bank and without having to start from a demolition.

Here in New England, we are so fortunate to have such an architectural variety of older homes starting with the earliest Cape Cod style houses, the traditional “New Englander”, the simple Farmhouse and the occasional Arts and Crafts Bungalow.

The possibilities are endless with any one of these. That said, my style is a fusion of simple vintage and serenity, with a dash of present day style to lift your spirits and move you forward. This often consists of light, neutral walls, pops of your favorite colors (often found in furnishings and cherished family pieces), natural wood tones with lots of textures (think chunky-knit blankets, baskets, etc.).

These rooms evoke a feeling of comfort, coziness and style every time you walk into the room for years to come. I believe homes are our sanctuary. I try to incorporate a sense of calm into all of my designs so that you can focus on what matters most in your life.

I live the “Gloom to Bloom” philosophy and have been helping clients to fall back in love with their surroundings one space at a time.

“I live by the adage “Bloom Where You're Planted." Let’s imagine the possibilities and make the very best of what you already have in your home.”

From as early as I can remember, I have had a passion for decorating all things. I was born and raised in upstate New York to a loving family of “do-it-yourselfers” who were always supportive of my artistic ways! I remember painting my entire bedroom at the age of 13 without my parents’ permission. They came home to quite a sight but somehow knew that they should foster this passion that was kindling inside of me. I will always be grateful for their sensitivity to the potential they saw in me at such a young age.

I went to college for two years for Interior Design and supported myself during that time with my own painting and wallpapering business called Wonderwalls. It was then that I moved to the seacoast of New Hampshire some 30 years ago.

Like so many of us, my career took me on many other paths. Instead of decorating the world, I decided to change it so my college training in interior design morphed into a degree in social work. And I derived tremendous satisfaction from that for 14 years. My next calling led me to healthcare management where I would spend the next 15 years having the honor of managing so many amazing people.

During these years, I continued to nurture the “artist within” by redecorating many of the medical practices that I managed, flipping houses, obtaining my real estate license and investing in rental properties. I have also renovated six of my own homes (while living in each of them) in Kittery, Maine as well as Rye, Portsmouth and Hampton, New Hampshire. My true passion has always been the restoration of older homes and I have gained so much knowledge about this work over the years as I have had the pleasure of working alongside gifted craftsmen.
